Ñymejan – the great valley

In the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta there is a hidden and wonderful place called ÑYMEJAN, where you can especially contemplate the most spectacular sunrises in the heart of the jungle and above the mountains, where you can appreciate the most spectacular birds with their heavenly song.

This is a special place for the indigenous people called: The Sacred waterfall Ñymejan, you can enjoy sacred ruins, special and get special service from the employed of the hostels you go to stay, you will enjoy amazing  meals depending on your diet and making direct integration with indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta.

First day: SANTA MARTA- CASA ARCO IRIS.

 

• 06.30 am,We pick you up at your hotel to the point you start to walk at 2800 meters above sea level, where we will have an energetic breakfast to regain strength and continue our adventure.
• 07.30 am,We continue in the jeep for two hours and thirty minutes, enjoying the beautiful landscapes and savoring a good coffee made by natives of the coffee plantations that are in the sector, we will also see from the highest point of the mountain called San Lorenzo all the city of Santa Marta.
•  We start to walk during one and half hour where we will see the Pyrrhura Viridicata, that is a species of bird better known as ¨Periquito de Santa Marta¨.

• We pass through the lagoon «Madre de Panku» and continue to the CERRO KENEDY base at 3,000 meters asl. enjoying some juicy and fruits.

• 12.00 pm, We start the descent for one hour to CASA ARCO IRIS, we have lunch and go to rest for approximately two hours then you can enjoy the farm and all they activities, you will know the organic gardens etc.
• At night you will enjoy a great dinner with a great atmosphere, campfire and rest.

Second day: CASA ARCO IRIS – PALACIO DE LAS NUBES(THE PALACE OF THE CLOUDS).

• We woke up at 6:00 with a good coffee.

• 06.30 am,We have breakfast and prepare for the day’s walk.
• 07.30 am,

  We start a 12 kilometer route for approximately 7 hours to EL PALACIO DE LAS NUBES (THE PALACE OF THE CLOUDS), where we will enjoy the wonderful viewpoint of the great ÑYMEJAN Valley, a magical point where you will be above the clouds appreciating that bright and beautiful sun, the road is downhill In its entirety where you can find endemic birds such as the Ara Militaris macaw, also the howler monkeys until you reach the beautiful waterfall, there you will have time to take a bath and enjoy the place.

• We continue our tour for two more hours to finally arrive at PALACIO DE LAS NUBES at approximately 14:00, we have lunch and rest a bit waiting to see the beautiful sunset, at night Dinner and campfire.

Third day: PALACIO DE LAS NUBES – LOS JAGUARES (THE JAGUARS).

• 05:00 am, This day we wake up early to appreciate the beautiful view of the glaciers accompanied by a good organic coffee.
• 07:30 am, We have breakfast and then we start the 7 kilometer walk for 6 hours passing by THE ROAD OF THE WATERFALLS, THE SACRED MOUNTAIN IN STONE INDIGENOUS RUINS that communicate with the SACRED SAINT ÑYMEJAN, a sacred site and a place of glue.
• 12:00 pm, We bathed in the POZO MAYOR for one hour enjoying some juicy fruits and snacks, then we continue for two more hours to lLOS JAGUARES, lunch, rest and share with the indigenous people.

Fourth day: LOS JAGUARES – SANTA MARTA

• 06.30 am, We have breakfast and then we start the walk for 8 hours and 19 kilometers approximately where we can visit members of the indigenous communities who can teach us their customs.

• We continue walking to POZO DEL GRINGO where we make a stop to bathe and hydrate ourselves, fruits and drinks, then we will find the village of the WIMAKE WIWA tribe, indigenous people of the area where we can take photos and live a little with them, then we arrive at the EL BOQUERON viewpoint.

• 14:00 pm, We take a snack to continue one more hour to PUNTA BRAVA, we have lunch and you will see the largest shield of COLOMBIA made of clay while and the guide will tell you the history.
• 15:30 pm, We return in the Jeep for two and a half hours until we reach our hotel at around 18:00.

• T-shirts , shorts and comfortable clothes for treking.
• Walking shoes or boots and sandals or flip flops (for crossing rivers)
